Admissions Policy

A student may attend the International School of Bremen if there is a specific need for an international education.

For example, if:

  • they have already attended an International school or a school in an English speaking country;
  • at least one parent/guardian is a native speaker of English;
  • the parents/guardians come from abroad and will not stay in Germany permanently;
  • the parents/guardians expect to work and live abroad or have come from abroad;
  • the parents/guardians plan to send their children to further education in an English speaking country

For the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), a more detailed Admission Policy is available opposite.

The admission age for Early Learning 1 is three  years, for Early Learning 2 is four years, for Early Learning 3 is five years and for Grade 1 is six years at age by 1 October. All students must be toilet trained.

There is no entrance examination if appropriate previous school records are supplied (e.g. the first school report). An interview will be held to assess whether the ISB is the correct school for the child. If a child needs English language support, this can be provided. Attendance in the Early Learning Centre is not a requirement for admission into Grade 1. If necessary, previous schools will be contacted, and an 'English as a Second Language' and a Maths test might be administered.

Unfortunately the ISB does not have the resources to serve students with moderate to severe Special Educational Needs.
