MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS

Since September 2018 when our Director, Jamie Perfect called the ISB musical tradition into life along with Drama teacher Liz Reick, students, parents and staff have been very engaged in preparing, rehearsing and performing for the major musical productions of Guys and Dolls JR.  (5th and 6th April 2019) and Fiddler on the Roof JR. (this was set for March 2020 but due to COVID-19 has had to be postponed) with much enthusiasm and enjoyment.

It has enabled students to develop, show their dramatic and musical talents and abilities out of the classroom, in a completely different setting.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF JR MUSICAL 2020

Due to the Coronavirus all ISB events have been postponed until further notice. The Fiddler on the Roof Jr. play could not take place but we hope to be able to host more musical productions in the near future.

INTRODUCTION BAKE SALE

On 1st and 2nd of October 2019, the ISB Musical 2020 team organised a Bake Sale to introduce their latest musical production, „Fiddler on the Roof Jr.“, which was due to hit the stage at the end of March 2020.

As the story centres around a family in a small Jewish village in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in 1905, the choice of date for the Bake Sale and its theme were very fitting, being the last day of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which is traditionally celebrated with apples and cake dipped in honey to symbolize having a „sweet new year“.

We succeeded in raising the funds needed to buy the last two headsets to complete our sound system.

Thank you to all who supported our activity!

GUYS & DOLLS JR MUSICAL 2019

The fabulous Guys and Doll JR. musical production played to sell out audiences on the last Friday and Saturday nights before the Spring Break 2019 with rave reviews and was pronounced "the best musical the ISB has ever produced!"

Introducing the main characters; Sarah Brown, Sky Masterson, Nathan Detroit, and Miss Adelaide - played by four amazingly talented students.

Guys and Dolls JR. is an adaptation of the show considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. Its namesake ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950 and won numerous Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Set in New York City in the early 1930's, Guys and Dolls JR. follows gambler, Nathan Detroit, as he tries to find the cash to set up the biggest crap game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend and nightclub performer, Adelaide, laments that they've been engaged for fourteen years without ever getting married. Nathan turns to fellow gambler, Sky Masterson, for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary, Sarah Brown. Guys and Dolls JR. takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, but everyone eventually ends up right where they belong.
