FAQS

What is the curriculum offered at ISB?
ISB is an IB school offering the International Primary curriculum(IPC), Cambridge programme in the middle years and the Diploma Programme in Grade 11 and 12.
Is ISB a British school?
The ISB is an international school. Our students hail from over 53 different countries, and our teaching staff hail from 24 different countries.
Is there a cut-off date for applications?
No. As an international school, we welcome students at any time of the school year provided space is available in the relevant year group.  However, some of the elementary classes fill up quite quickly and hence it is recommended that you start the application process by the end of December or at the beginning of January.
How big are the classes?
The maximum class size is regulated. The average class size is between 13-18 students. 
Does ISB accept applications from students with special needs?
Yes, we are able to offer support in the classroom in a limited manner for students with mild to mid level Learning difficulties.
Is it possible for a student applicant to attend a trial day?
Yes, student applicants can attend a trial day to get a taste of a typical school day at ISB. Please contact the admissions office to arrange a trial/taster day. ISB Admissions
What are the conditions to apply to ISB?

Parents are requested to complete an application form, arrange a tour of the school. We accept students of all abilities, we are non-selective and do not conduct any entrance tests.

  • Along with the application form, we ask for:
  • Copy of your child’s passport
  • Copy of your child’s immunisation record against Measles
  • Most recent school report
What languages are taught at ISB?
English is the language of instruction. German is offered as a second language from Grade 2 onwards at a native or non-native level. French/Spanish is offered as a 3rd language from Gr.5 onwards.

Students who have limited English language skills receive support from our EAL (English as an Additional Language) team.

Students who apply for the IB programme must have sufficient knowledge of English to follow the IB programme. We suggest IELTS level 6 is the ideal minimum.

A range of native Languages are and can be offered in the extracurricular programme
 
Does my child need to speak German to apply to ISB?
No. Prior knowledge of German is not required to apply to ISB as all lessons are taught in English.
What are the school hours?
The school day begins at 8:00am and ends at 3:00pm. On Fridays, the school day ends at 2:10pm. Depending on the timetable, the school day ends at 3:50pm for IB classes on certain days.

Extra curricular programmes run 3pm until 4pm and in some cases 5pm Monday to Thursday. 
Is there a school bus available?
No. Most students live close to the school, and enjoy cycling to school, Bremen is the safest cycle city in Germany, or they are dropped off at school by their parents. As the school is situated in the area of the Bremen university, it is well-connected with the public transport system and many students use the tram/bus to travel to school. 
Is there a school uniform?
No. While there is no school uniform at ISB, students are expected to be decently dressed for a school day.
Can my child start once the school year has begun?
Yes, students start at all times of the year provided we have places available.
What school supplies does my child need?
All school supplies are provided by the school. Students Gr.6 upwards must bring their own device to access digital textbooks, we recommend a laptop.  Access is granted via their school email account.
Do you offer school meals?
Yes, we have a school canteen offering a wide range of healthy food and drinks. Please check the webpage isbcanteen.de for more information.  A registration is required for school meals. Please contact the admissions office or school office to obtain the required form. Cost of the school lunches are not included in the tuition fees. Learn more here.
Do you organise class trips - day or overnight trips?
Yes, this varies from class to class and as required by the curriculum. These costs are not included in the fees.
Do you have an introduction programme for children starting in the Early Years? Are parents required to support their child during the first days?
Unlike the German system this is not compulsory, we are generally flexible depending on the needs of the students.
